2023 had its moments but I’m glad to see the back of it.

2024 has got to be better, right?

I have to say, that 2025 also was pretty good for me. 

If I were cynical, it looks as though the years hurt people in different ways depending on where they are in life.  I have once again, had a very productive year, filled with some milestones on a professional level, culminating in winning an award at work on Saturday, better health (i've been able to exercise more this year, than in my last 3 combined) and have dropped about 5kg to go back under 100KG for the first time since COVID started (Im 5 foot 11, so this is still quite heavy).  I achieved my first official Microsoft certification (not at the beginner, I went hard and went straight to a intermediate level certification, cos reasons) and have generally had a massive year from a work load perspective and come through it ok.  I have not fished as much as I wanted to, and didnt go on too many holidays, but did go to Brisbane again for our latest final. 

Sure, at times it sucked, because life is challenging, but I think Ive learned that the overall year itself can be good with poor points in it (no Carlton flag) but can still largely be positive.

Those who go "worst year ever" are likely to have next year go, hold my beer just when you think it cant get worse, the world finds a way.  So appreciate the good bits, and I genuinely feel for those who have had a bit of a mare so dont think thats cold.

For those who are reading this, I may have triggered you, but one of my dearest friends who I have known since 1996, has recently had his 42 year old wife diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and it has been discovered through chance after having metastasized.  They have a 12 year old, and the prognosis is not great.  So not to denigrate anyones personal challenges, I always consider my fortune in context, and recognise, that irrespective of the challenges I did face this year, I have come through them and out the other side, not necessarily clean and clear, but better for the experience. 

Things could and can be worse than even the aforementioned.  next year is going to have some horrific moments, but hopefully it will truly be a Navy Blue Year!
