Multiple Quoting

Folks, we're just noticing a problem with Multiple quoting in response to posts.
It looks a bit like a dog's breakfast at times with quote within quote.
It's very hard to see which part some are actually responding to, and in fact distinguish who said what.

We understand that there is a bit of a problem in this regard when posting from a mobile but could posters just try and cut down by picking the bit you specifically want to respond to and quoting just that part in replies.

Thanks

Yes, we can try.  ;)
This digital world is too much for us insects to understand.

Our site is experiencing a few glitches and one manifestation is quoted posts within quoted posts, and a few random characters.

You can help by physically (or is that digitally) deleting the earlier quotes, taking care to leave the text in square brackets that delineates the post you wish to quote.

Can't get a time frame on it at the moment Paul.
It goes to the wider issue we have in terms of site maintenance and longevity.

Spanner has indicated that his time is somewhat limited and there are also issues of hosting of the site in the future.
Our membership is probably a fair bit down on what it used to be, given the rise of numerous facebook pages. As a result technical expertise is also not readily available and it hasn't been possible to find someone with the skills (or time) to help out with site maintenance.

Thanks Lods. I'm sure I'm not the only one who finds the current site experience less than ideal.

It's OK.  I don't see any real issue, it just feels different.

I think it's a personal preference in some respects.
I also don't mind it, except when it stretches out to a half a dozen quotes within a quote.

Often you'll see a post quoted without the context of what they were responding to and you think WTF is that all about.

Yep.

This is actually how the site used to be (minus the extra randome box/character).
It got changed to the one quote because of the above.....excessive quotes.

It does has some benefit though as i know there have been 'discussions' i have had with people who have clearly missed something that was previously mentioned which wouldn't have happened with multiple quotes like now.

As long as people don't go overboard, i reckon we are better off with it.
