Trump has already been president and the world was fine, actually it was a lot better than it is now.
I think the difference is this time he has stated he intends to permanently 'fix' the issues caused by 'the enemy within', by politicising the civil service, judiciary, military and law and order community to the point where they will unquestionably respond to his whims.  The fact that he had to 'fire' so many appointees during his first term should make it very clear what happens to anyone who dares to question his authority.  He will surround himself with sycophants (think Vance, Steven Cheung) who will happily agree with him that the sky is green.

The moment a world leader no longer listens to those around him unless they agree with him, he becomes a dictator.

A week to go and it appears that the election is too close to call. Much will depend on which candidate can get their supporters to the ballot box.
A lot of the concerns surround what Trump ‘says’ he will do.

The thing is he does about half of what he says he will do, and it also assumes no resistance or pushback.
About half of the states have Democratic governors and their populations reflect that.
The military folk who have worked under him seem to have absolutely no time for him at all.

I think we all have slightly different opinions as to what a second Trump term would look like. Some envisage the storm troopers marching through Time Square. Others see not much change at all. For many Americans it’s a case of a meaner, more cruel, world where minorities are oppressed and life becomes one of constant fear. For others Trump represents a chance of a better lot in life.

It’s hard to know just how things will work out, but I suspect we choose to believe in one path or the other based pretty much on our own life experiences and political bent.
I have concerns. Probably more for the world as a whole, rather than just the USA. I’d be particularly concerned If I was a Ukrainian.

This is Tump’s last shot. It will be his last four-year term. The 22nd amendment states that much.
To change that is a lengthy process that requires massive majorities in both the congress and State legislatures. So ‘dictator for life’ is not possible. Trump can set up a dynasty of sorts with like minded folks like Vance or his children, but does he really have that interest.

Trump isn’t concerned as much about his country as he is about his own personal situation, and that includes dealing with ongoing criminal charges and reducing his golf handicap. He’ll have more time for golf if he can make the criminal stuff go away.

He’s spoken a fair bit about the things he is going to do. If you look at the promises he made before his election in 2016. He made 102 promises. He followed through on just 25, compromised on 23 and broke 54. (politifact.com). So, believe half of what he says he is going to do. Now of course some of those weren’t carried through because of political obstruction, so control of the house and senate is also important. But he had that luxury in 2016.

What will most likely happen is that the reality of a Trump term won’t match the rhetoric and expectations of his more extreme supporters who will become frustrated and disillusioned. Life won’t change much for the majority of folks and for some that will be disappointing given the promises. The same thing happened under the Democrats. They couldn’t make the changes that meant for many that life was perceived as better than it had been under Trump…so here is where we find ourselves.

Someone who should have been consigned to the 'dustbin of history' four years ago is now in with a real shot of becoming President again.

The GOP clearly do not understand the difference between 'being in power' and 'leadership'.......

They said all this stuff last time. He was gonna be the next Hitler, imagine if he has the keys to the nukes etc.
That didn't happen. He threatened Kim Jong with fire and fury then they shook hands and little Kim stopped firing rockets near Japan. The world was safer when Trump was in power.

world war 3 might be attributed to him recognising Israel's claims on Jerusalem.   Who knows what invokes this sort of panic response we saw 2 years ago.   That being said since new Israel was established that place has been a pressure cooker waiting to burst.

I dont buy the narrative about hamas either.  You might have successfully argued that point 30+ years ago, but i'd bet London to a brick you would see people react the same way if it were their country being handed over.

The myth that the world was safer/better/more peaceful during the 45th US presidency!

Leaving aside the POTUS's disastrous handling of COVID and the global flow on effects, some of the lowlights of the 45th presidency were:

- The US withdrawing from the Trans-Pacific Partnership.

- Rolling back the Obama administration’s rapprochement with Cuba.

- The US recognising Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

- Increased US support for the Saudi and UAE-led intervention in the war in Yemen.  The POTUS repeatedly used his veto to override bipartisan majorities in Congress that tried to stop US military involvement and block the flow of arms to the conflict.

- Undoing the successful Iran nuclear deal.

- The illegal assassination of Iranian General Qasem Soleimani that brought the US and Iran to the brink of war and led to the mobilisation of millions of troops. Iran's restraint averted a catastrophic war.

- The launching of 59 cruise missiles against Syria in 2017.

- US drone strikes in Somalia and Kenya.

- Authorising the CIA to launch drone strikes without permission from the White House or the Pentagon.

- The POTUS tore up the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty, withdrew from the Open Skies Treaty and failed to extend the critical New START Treaty with Russia ... and he wanted to nuke hurricanes!

- The POTUS adopted an inconsistent and often antagonistic approach to North Korea that came very close to nuclear war before the POTUS kissed and made up with "Rocket Man".

- The Abraham Accords, negotiated by Jared Kushner (who pocketed $2B), set the scene for the current war in Gaza.

- The disastrous surrender deal with the Taliban.

- The trade war with China.

- The US abandoning the  Paris climate accord.

- Last but not least is the POTUS’s bromance with Vladimir Putin.  As former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe sees it, the POTUS is effectively a Russian asset.

I think one needs to tread warily when making these conflations. There's no data that I can find, no rhetoric, no actions, no plans, no "concepts of plans", that supports the idea that Trump has any kind of commitment to making the world better or safer.

He says he's going to stop the wars...
He may very well do that.

Yes, well, Trump says a lot of things. The chances that he will take on the might of the US military industrial complex is virtually nil IMO.

I heard Norman Finkelstein a couple of months back, talking about how Biden was pissed about being bumped for the top job, and publicly endorsed Harris as an act of spite, knowing that the Democrat kingmakers (Pelosi, Schumer, Obama) considered her a subpar nominee, and that they wanted to run their own internal process to find a suitable replacement.

The reason is unlike the typical politician he doesn't care how he appears in public or in the media. He can be crude even rude but says it off the cuff and if you can look past that hes record as President speaks for itself.

The US economy was stronger, and the world was safer as the real nutters were too afraid with Trump in power where the Dems are seen as weak and a pushover and bully's love a pushover so hence why things on the world stage escalated in the last 4 years.

The lefties will spin it but the fact is many say he is the next Hilter etc yet fact is there was NO new wars during his last stint.

He will solute in a weeks time and we all will be better for it ;)

There's no data anywhere that support the idea that Trump is tough, brave or fearless. Starting from his pathetic attempt to dodge the draft, through decades of sucking up to the rich and powerful, evading responsibility and accountability for all transgressions, picking on minority individuals and groups that either won't defend themselves or lack the resources to do so, picking fights only to let others do the dirty work, and on it goes. Yeah, real tough guy.

Are you sure you want to confirm that...it kind of goes against what I think you believe ;)

Let’s start with what Trump Derangement Syndrome means.

Urban Dictionary offers up this handy definition: “Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS) is a mental condition in which a person has been driven effectively insane due to their dislike of Donald Trump, to the point at which they will abandon all logic and reason.”

Justin Raimondo, the editorial director of Antiwar.com, wrote a piece in the Los Angeles Times in 2016 that broke TDS down into three distinct phases or stages:

“In the first stage of the disease, victims lose all sense of proportion. The president-elect’s every tweet provokes a firestorm, as if 140 characters were all it took to change the world.”
“The mid-level stages of TDS have a profound effect on the victim’s vocabulary: Sufferers speak a distinctive language consisting solely of hyperbole.”
“As TDS progresses, the afflicted lose the ability to distinguish fantasy from reality.”
